Family Friday: Gardening, Park Play, Back-to-School Sickness, & Work

Family Fun!

Welcome to our world! What’s a week like in your house? I bet it’s a lot like ours, fun, hectic, sometimes chaotic, but always filled with lots of love. Here’s a peek into our family’s week!

The AZ weather is starting to feel more like Fall (well, our version of Fall) and we enjoyed a fun day at the park! The girls are so happy to be able to play outside.

After Z being sick for two weeks with a stomach bug, G got sick for a few days. We’ve already had a few cases of sickness this school year and I’m trying to find ways to boost everyone’s immunity and am on the lookout for possible food sensitivities. I think we all need to up our fruits and veggies at the very least! We eat pretty healthy, but I think we still have room for improvement. I have sensitivities to egg and dairy, so I’m hoping that the girls won’t have to worry about it, but it seems like so many people have food sensitivities these days. Would love to hear ideas on boosting immunity and healthy recipes for kids in the comments below!

After the girls were better, they had a blast planting in their grandparent’s garden! They get the chance to do this every planting season and it is a wonderful thing! It’s a family tradition that goes back generations and I love for them to get the chance to be a part of it. When I was little, my grandparents had a farm and I got to help them plant. It was so nice to be immersed in nature and learn about gardening. As a young child, my dad grew up on a dairy farm and I enjoy his stories about life on the farm.

We tried to plant a garden last Spring at our house, but I think we got to it too late in the season. My dream is to have an edible back yard with fruit trees, a veggie garden and herbs. I love growing rosemary and basil because they smell so good and it’s fun to use them in recipes. I also had the chance to volunteer at a small local farm one morning this week, which was wonderful! Gardening is one of my happy places. I left the farm feeling so calm and centered.

I have been busy preparing for the launch of the Baby Talk Tips e-book, plus my other job as a Speech Pathology supervisor. Oh, and then there’s my gig as a Beautycounter consultant (an awesome beauty brand that diligently chooses only safe ingredients in their products), which has been so fun and inspiring. I am working toward achieving a better work-life balance, but it can be tricky at times, as I’m sure many work-at-home moms can relate to.
