Happy Spring Chirpy friends! I love this time of year with flowers blooming, great Arizona weather for outdoor activities, and fun Spring holidays (we celebrate both Easter and Passover, so it’s double the fun). My girls love watching silly surprise egg videos on YouTube, so we thought we’d make a video and put our own educational spin on it. So without further ado, here are our tips for building language with Easter surprise eggs!

First, we made funny creatures using colorful pom poms, Spring themed stickers, and of course, googly eyes! I hid them inside the eggs and placed the eggs in a box. You could place any tiny items in your eggs!

Tip 1: Ask “what do you think is inside the egg?” and then let your kids use their imagination to guess what might be in the egg.

Tip 2: Shake the egg and ask, “what do you hear?” or “what do you think is making that sound?” Let them listen and guess what item is making the sound that they hear.

Tip 3: Place items that your child finds interesting or that teach new concepts they are learning about in the egg (characters, stickers, tiny toys, alphabet stickers). Let them find items that they like to put in the eggs.

Tip 4: Talk about prepositions (in, out, on, next to) by placing the egg/toy/sticker/creature in different places and asking, “where is the toy,” or “where is the egg?”

Tip 5: Describe the things inside the egg and the egg itself using adjectives. “What does the egg look like?” Talk about colors, size, features, and other attributes.

Tip # 6: Talk about opposites (full & empty, big & small). Fill up an egg and ask if it is empty or full. If you have different sized eggs, talk about whether they are big or small.

Bonus Tip: Be creative and use the eggs or the items inside the eggs to make up a story! You could even have the eggs or the tiny items inside act out the story.

Vocabulary words to talk about or use in a story: egg, Spring, Easter, surprise, colors, shapes, prepositions (in, out), opposites (empty/full).
